Core Values

To give you a sense of who I am and what underpins my consultancy practice, I share these three values as an insight into what drives my decisions and professional practices.

Achievement

Since I was an adolescent, all my efforts have been driven by a desire for achievement. My strong vision and ambitious goal-setting has led to many exciting opportunities, and my results have formed some of the most significant milestones of my life.

My interest in leadership was sparked in high school. I was allocated a group of year 7 students and tasked with supporting them through their transition into high school.

I immersed myself in this work, diligently preparing for the group. Experiencing how the group formed, engaged in discussions and developed a cohesive social connection was a formative moment. My commitment to the group was rewarded when the school principal awarded me with an “outstanding leadership” award.

What made this recognition even more pivotal for me was that two years prior, a teacher had described me as “an average student”. I distinctly remember telling my Mum “I don’t want to be average, I want to be outstanding”. Since then, I have reached high and accomplished many and varied achievements.

Integrity

“The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles” (Oxford Dictionary).

As a qualified Social Worker, I have a professional obligation to operate within the values of the Australian Association of Social Workers. I place great emphasis on applying integrity across all aspects of my life.

I speak out against behaviour or systems that prevent people from being their best, but I do this with kindness. When we work together, you will undoubtedly, feel challenged by my approach at times – just know that these moments can lead to significant growth and improvement.

I place great emphasis on forming a partnership with clients that involves finding moments of lightness and humour, whilst maintaining a high standard of professionalism.

My consultancy services are designed to help you get the best result possible from our collaboration. I don’t offer brief solutions to complex problems.

Knowledge

I am committed to continuous learning, which has resulted in the creation of an extensive knowledge bank that I apply to my practice and share with clients.

My services are evidence-based. I apply knowledge that is informed, considered and supported by data (both quantitative and qualitative). Behind the scenes, I conduct extensive research to ensure the quality of my consultation services is up-to-date and relevant to your goals.

My determination and commitment to supporting my clients through their own development and transitions is unwavering. Enabling a leader to reach their full potential, leading systems improvement projects, or designing and delivering capacity building to individuals or teams; each of these scenarios allows me to work honestly from my values and create opportunities, and be the catalyst for change you have been looking for.

Achievements

Churchill Fellow (2013)

In 2013, I was awarded the prestigious Winston Churchill Fellowship (Australia) to identify the key strategies required for health services to effectively work together in response to children and young people at risk of child maltreatment.

The Fellowship involved interviewing experts in Canada, United States of America, England and Ireland.

To learn more about this study, access the research report here.

Doctor of Philosophy

In 2020, I completed a doctoral thesis which described the practices of child and family health nurses when working with children and families where child maltreatment was suspected. The study adopted a pragmatic approach and through mixed methods methodology, two phases of data collection and analysis were conducted with a cohort of practicing child and family health nurses in New South Wales.

Grow your capability
to be a modern leader

Not all managers are leaders.

Not all leaders manage a team.

Leadership is not confined to a role.

All organisations and businesses have leaders scattered throughout, not just in specific positions.

Using the term leader instead of manager is not a matter of semantics.

Leaders are people focused. They inspire and support. They coach for growth. Create psychology safety. Value trust. Navigate conflict.

Managers are task focused. They recruit. They control risks and work for compliance. Plan and prioritise. Manage change. Perform for deliverables.

Being a manager is quite different from being a leader.

Learn more about becoming a great leader today.

“Thank you for all your wisdom and work.

The things you taught me in those few sessions have been profoundly helpful.

It has changed how I show up and work and in life.”

— Senior Leader, Human Services Sector

Develop your
leadership team

Leadership teams are commonly used to lead an organisation. Yet group dynamics can render leadership teams ineffective when not supported to move from formation to high performance.

The relationship within leadership teams can be the most difficult dynamic to manage. When relationships are strong and robust, high performance can come naturally. But when there are relationship ruptures and prolonged conflict, even functioning at a basic level of a leadership team can feel impossible.

As a consultant external to your organisation, I bring a unique perspective and objectivity that allows me to attend the elephant in the room. My professional skills and 25 years of experience mean I can engage the most resistant leadership teams to take steps to come together and perform.

“Having Belinda come into our team when we were at our most vulnerable has been the most valuable gift to us to rebuild and refocus and do great things as a leadership team.”

— Senior Manager, Human Services Sector

Transform your organisation

Investing in the professional development for your workforce is an essential business investment and a key strategy to optimise performance.

I deliver training and education programs designed specifically to meet the learning needs of your people.

Ranging from 2-hour workshop through to complete customised leadership programs, building capacity through workplace training is an effective way to drive performance.

Providing access to continuous education not only builds skills and knowledge, but it can also positively influence group performance and employee engagement.

Capacity building at team level results in high-performing teams, successful outcomes and contributing a positive impact across your sector.

“My time with you was such an investment and really cleared my head alot. As a result of (my) cleared head I delved into a different model for my business and put together a pitch deck and sent it off to the big players everywhere!

I’m absolutely stoked and don’t believe I would have had the capacity to think and create this model if I hadn’t have engaged you first.”
